What do mg and mL mean on dog CBD labels?

THE SHORT ANSWER

Milligrams measure an amount of substance; milliliters measure liquid volume. A bottle’s total CBD amount is different from its CBD concentration or the amount in one serving.

What the question leaves out

A label can display several numbers without making their relationship obvious. Bottle volume tells you how much liquid is present. The CBD statement tells you which cannabinoid amount the manufacturer is describing. The instructions describe a proposed serving.

For illustration only, a hypothetical liquid containing 100 mg CBD in 50 mL has a concentration of 2 mg per mL. That arithmetic explains units; it does not recommend a dose for any dog.

Make the next step useful

Locate all three pieces of information before comparing products. For chews, check whether the amount is per piece or per container. Ask the manufacturer to resolve conflicting information rather than selecting the most convenient number.

Have your veterinarian translate the plan into markings on the actual measuring device. Keep the original device with its product so a household member does not swap droppers between different concentrations.

Is a milligram of hemp extract always a milligram of CBD?

No. Hemp extract may include other components; look for a CBD-specific statement.
